25 February 2024 / Nepal – The Ministry of Health and Population, Government of Nepal, has launched a nationwide measles-rubella vaccination campaign with the aim of vaccinating approximately 5.7 million children. The campaign will vaccinate children 9 months to under 15 years in 24 high-risk districts (21 districts in Terai and three districts in Kathmandu Valley). Similarly, children 9 months to under 5 years will be vaccinated in 51 out of 53 districts.
The campaign has already been successfully conducted in the two earthquake-affected districts: Jajarkot and Rukum West. Integrated with this campaign, other life-saving vaccines – pentavalent vaccine (DPT-HepB-Hib), pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, and inactivated polio vaccine – will also be provided for children who have missed these vaccines in routine immunization.
WHO will continue to support MoHP to accelerate progress towards Nepal’s goal of eliminating measles and rubella by 2026. (News source : https://www.who.int/nepal)
